I’ve gotten a chance to develop a few logos in my day. Some higher profile than others.

PROPS ATHLETICS

If I recall, and this goes back a while, they just came in with the word PROPS in Futura or a similar font. Once Lauren explained that the “Props” were referring to what I knew as a “fist bump” the icon of the fist made sense… and then replacing the O with the fist. Add “Athletics” underneath, space it out… voila.

LARRY BERRIO

I got to know Larry through his role as Global Ambassador for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Sudbury. When he asked me to develop his logo, I drew inspiration from a classic Johnny Cash logo I’d seen out there. I found what I felt was a representative photo of him to use, plus worked in the “Proudly Canadian” angle, and found a font that worked with his country music style.

W74 RANGE – MADE WITH TUNGSTEN

A new “thing” in the glove industry is using Tungsten filament as the cut resistant component in the lightest weight of gloves available. I came up with the name W74 when I looked up Tungsten on the periodic table. Then I developed the logo to use it on our leaflets, catalogue entry, trade show wall. I never actually stopped thinking about it though, and came up with the second version that we would later use for Ninja’s range of Tungsten based gloves.

THE HOCKEY BARON

When a freelance client bought himself a hockey team, he asked if I’d develop the logo/mascot for it. I used the Monopoly Man as a starting point, but took it a little darker to live up to the “baron” aspect of the name.

CEREBRAL ENTERTAINMENT

Some screenwriting friends were putting together a package for a film festival of some kind and needed a logo to pitch for funding. I don’t think it went far, but the logo was still fun. It reflected their horror roots, and the Courier font itself is the font used in the screenwriting world.
