Product Leaflets

Sooooo many leaflets over the years. This has seriously formed a big bulk of my time at Midas Safety. In some companies the graphic designer may just design a leaflet based on a copy deck and resources supplied by another department. Not me. Not here.

I’m involved in the creation of these product leaflets from beginning to end. I will get a bare-bones specification sheet giving only a few details about the gloves – certification scores, construction details and that’s about it. It may give me some basic features or applications, but this is not completely consistent.

So, I’ll take the info I do have, and cross reference it against leaflets and other collaterals I’ve already created. Does the liner have Nylon and Spandex in it? Those two elements bring certain features to the table. Glass or steel for cut resistance? Again, can draw upon existing resources to fill in those details. I’ll often have to interface with the Product Management Team to determine the Unique Selling Proposition of any given glove – how is it being positioned, what’s it competing against in the marketplace? This will allow me to craft a coherent batch of copy describing and promoting the glove.

I’ll have to photgraph the glove, palm and back of hand, and strip out the backgrounds and add a Midas Safety logo to the back. I’ll have to either dip into our image bank of stock photos or purchase something fresh to fill in some visual gaps.

All in all, I’ve likely spent more time making product leaflets than all other engagements combined.

Obviously there are a lot of different leaflets here. Different parties have all pushed to have different flavours of leaflets while they were in a position of influence, and I, myself, have varied things up regularly to try and keep them fresh.

Farukh Tanveer, former Key Account Manager at Midas Safety
“Geoff is an extremely creative individual with a great sense of design and style. His design abilities are truly impressive and he attends to every detail, no matter how minute it may be. I was impressed with his ability to consider – and balance – strategic issues, creative concepts and practical considerations. It was also impressive to watch him (over a period of several months) shepherd a very important and complex launch campaign through numerous client presentations and shifts in direction. These “big picture” skills are matched by a keen eye and a real attention to detail. He is patient, yet firm when need be, and always goes the extra mile to make sure questions are answered and support rendered wherever it is needed.”
